Tough Outing for No. 60 Acura at Laguna Seca

It was a challenging day for Tom Blomqvist and the No. 60 Acura ARX-06 of Meyer Shank Racing with Curb Agajanian (MSR) during Sunday’s TireRack.com Monterey SportsCar Championship at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca.

After qualifying fifth, Tom Blomqvist quickly moved up to third in the early stages of the two-hour, 40-minute IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship race. Blomqvist handed the car over to co-driver Colin Braun with one hour and 40 minutes remaining, but a slight pit delay dropped them to sixth.

Things went from bad to worse when Braun was bumped by another car at the halfway point, resulting in left-rear bodywork damage and a tire rub. Race officials issued a mechanical black flag, forcing the No. 60 into the pits for repairs, where the team replaced the rear wing. A penalty during the stop further compounded the delay, sending Braun back out three laps down.

With the entire 36-car field running to the finish without a single caution, the No. 60 team had no opportunity to recover lost ground, ultimately crossing the line in 11th place.

The team will look to rebound at the next round of the IMSA WeatherTech Championship: the Detroit Grand Prix on May 31, a fast-paced 100-mile sprint through the streets of downtown Detroit.

Tom Blomqvist: “Very disappointing result for us. We had a good first stint and we were running third and then it all just kind of fell to pieces for us. It’s a shame because it would have been nice to stay running at the front and have a good result today. We just didn’t have the pace regardless. The two Porsches are just in a league of their own. We’ll leave this weekend behind us and learn from the mistakes and try to improve.”
