Tom Blomqvist delivered a masterful late-race performance to claim victory at the Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen, securing his and the No. 60 Acura ARX-06 crew’s first win of the 2025 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season.
After a challenging, weather-affected opening half of the race, Blomqvist took over from co-driver Colin Braun for the closing stages. With just three laps remaining, a final restart set up a two-lap sprint to the finish. Running third as the green flag waved, he pushed hard, capitalizing when the two leading cars were forced to pit for fuel. The Brit crossed the line 1.880 seconds clear of his nearest rival to take a dramatic last-lap victory on the iconic Watkins Glen circuit.
The race itself was far from straightforward. Ten cautions and sudden shifts in weather kept teams on their toes, with nearly half of the six-hour contest run under yellow flags. Early rain and later intense heat tested both drivers and machinery, while strategic precision proved crucial in the final stages.
Blomqvist’s opening laps in his stint were measured and consistent, gradually climbing through the order from seventh to fourth before the final hour. A perfectly executed strategy call and careful fuel management from the Meyer Shank Racing crew put him in position to fight for the win when it mattered most.
“Great for everyone on MSR, HRC and Acura,” said Blomqvist. “The guys did a fantastic job committing to that strategy and putting the odds in our favor to win that race. Obviously we were able to execute and I’m really happy with the job I did as well. We had really big fuel targets and that’s what enabled me to get to the end when others couldn’t. I’m proud of the effort — it wasn’t looking great early on, but we made the most of it and earned this one. It’s the result the team deserves after all the hard work this season.”
The victory marks Blomqvist’s second podium of the 2025 campaign following his runner-up finish at the Rolex 24 at Daytona and reinforces his reputation as one of IMSA’s most composed and strategic late-race performers.
Next up for Blomqvist and the No. 60 Acura is the IMSA SportsCar Weekend at Road America on August 3, as they continue their charge toward the championship’s closing rounds.
