Tom Blomqvist returned to United Autosports this weekend for the IMSA LMP2 round at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park (CTMP), helping the #22 ORECA 07 crew to a second-place finish and their third podium of the 2025 season.
The race marked Blomqvist’s first outing with the British-based team since 2023, joining full-season driver Daniel Goldburg for the two-hour, 40-minute sprint event. Starting from the front row after Goldburg’s impressive P2 qualifying effort, the #22 car held strong in the opening stages as Goldburg kept the leaders in sight and managed heavy GTD traffic with precision.
A perfectly timed Full Course Yellow allowed Blomqvist to take over at the halfway mark, with the field bunched tightly together. After rejoining in a close pack, he initially dropped a few positions while adjusting to the conditions, but a rapid pit stop by the United Autosports crew vaulted the #22 back into podium contention.
In the closing stages, Blomqvist found rhythm and pace, managing traffic cleanly and maintaining pressure on the leaders. A late-race incident brought out another caution, freezing the order and confirming the #22 in second place as the race ended under yellow.
“In the end a pretty solid result, starting where we finished,” said Blomqvist. “It wasn’t that straightforward out there. Daniel did a fantastic job at the start to maintain second place, then I jumped in under yellow which bunched the field up. I struggled a bit early on getting into a groove and lost a couple of spots, but the team nailed the pit stops and we clawed it back. I felt really good on the final run and it’s a great result for the team and for Dan in the championship. You’ve got to be happy with that.”
The P2 finish extends the #22 crew’s lead in the LMP2 championship and marks another successful outing for Blomqvist in 2025 following recent IMSA and WEC campaigns.
