Tom Blomqvist joins United Autosports for 2023 WEC campaign

MB Partners are delighted to announce that recently crowned IMSA Champion, Tom Blomqvist, will be joining United Autosports for the 2023 FIA World Endurance LMP2 Championship - partnering Oliver Jarvis and Josh Pierson in the #23 Oreca-07.

Fresh off the back of his title-winning campaign in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, in which Tom secured two race victories at the iconic Daytona 24 Hours and Petit Le Mans, as well as seven trips to the podium and three pole positions - Tom now joins the legendary United Autosports for their 2023 WEC assault.

United Autosports is one of the largest motorsport companies in the UK and competes globally in different categories across the world. Based in Wakefield, West Yorkshire, the company is co-owned by McLaren CEO Zak Brown and former racing driver Richard Dean. The team are multiple championship and race winners having won the FIA World Endurance LMP2 Championship and the Le Mans 24 Hours in 2020.

Tom Blomqvist, who was born in Cambridge (UK) and raised in New Zealand, hails from a motor racing background with his father, Stig, claiming the World Rally Championship Driver’s title in 1984. A motorsport all-rounder with a championship-winning pedigree; Tom has a wide-ranging experience in sportscars, Formula E, GT and DTM and has established a reputation as one of the world’s leading racing talents.

Next year sees Tom return to the WEC having previously contested 11 WEC races in the LMP2 and GTE category. Boasting a 64% podium rate, Tom's most successful WEC performance came in 2021, where he finished as vice-champion in the LMP2 category and also finished second at the 2021 Le Mans 24 Hours - finishing just 0.727 seconds behind the winning car; the closest ever finish in WEC LMP2 history.

The FIA World Endurance Championship 2023 calendar kicks off with the Official Prologue at Sebring on 11-12 March 2023, followed by the first race of the season, the 1000 Miles of Sebring on 17 March for the “Super Sebring” weekend. The "Super Sebring" weekend will see Tom undertake racing duties with both Meyer Shank Racing, in the IMSA Championship, and United Autosports, in the WEC. 2023 will also see the championship feature the centenary edition of the iconic 24 Hours of Le Mans.

“I’m delighted to be joining United Autosports for the 2023 WEC campaign. They have proven themselves as one of the top teams in the world of endurance racing and I’m thrilled to be working with all of the team. I had a successful year with Olly, winning the IMSA championship together, so teaming up with him and Josh makes for a real exciting lineup! It’s great to be back in the WEC paddock, heading back to Le Mans and in the ultra-competitive LMP2 category, so big thanks to Zak and Richard for showing their trust in me." - Tom Blomqvist

“This is more fantastic news for Tom in an already unforgettable year for him! United Autosports are a world-leading team run under fantastic ownership with Zak and Richard. Tom is now in two championship-winning teams, for 2023, in the two biggest series' in endurance racing, which is a huge testament to his performances and exactly what he deserves!" - Mark Blundell - CEO and Founder, MB Partners
