Tom Blomqvist aiming for the top step at Watkins Glen

SAHLEN’S SIX HOURS OF THE GLEN
IMSA ROUND FIVE | WATKINS GLEN INTERNATIONAL | JUNE 22 - 25

Tom Blomqvist is looking to reignite his championship fight with Meyer Shank Racing this weekend, as he and the team head to Watkins Glen International to contest the fifth round of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.

2022 IMSA Champion, Tom Blomqvist, will be teaming up with regular Meyer Shank Racing teammate Colin Braun to pilot the #60 Acura ARX-06 in the lead GTP class for the third round of IMSA endurance racing. Tom and the team has a score to settle with Watkins Glen International after finishing second in the 2022 Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen by a mere 0.861-seconds following a dominating performance that also saw Tom also securing the team pole position at the event.

Last year, the Blomqvist captured the pole for MSR after leading both practices and the warm-up, and then dominated the race. MSR led 78 laps and ran no lower than second in an event that was slowed by several caution periods and a red flag for weather. The result was the team’s fourth of five-consecutive runner-up finishes that carried MSR to the DPi championship.

The event will reach new heights this year with the largest entry list ever at Watkins Glen International with 57 entries set to take the green flag on Sunday.

Heading into the weekend, Tom finds himself in 8th position in the IMSA Driver Standings with a total of 1023 points with fives races still left to contest.

The on track action begins on Friday with the first free practice session at 16:30 (ET). A second practice session will take place on Saturday morning, with qualifying later that day at 13:20. Sunday's six-hour race is scheduled to begin at 10:40.

“Watkins is definitely one of the highlight races of the season. It’s such a fantastic track and its so much fun to drive. Last year we had a fantastic car, qualified on the pole and unfortunately we just missed out on the win. But it’s a place I really enjoy driving at. It’s going to be a jam packed race with a full field and I think it’s going to be super difficult with all the traffic. We’re quicker in different parts of the track this year with the new GTP cars, so it’s going to be a challenge. The ARX-06 has been fantastic for us all season long, so I think it’s going to be a great track for us.”
