Acura Meyer Shank Racing with Curb Agajanian (Acura MSR) returned to the Rolex 24 At Daytona with determination, and Tom Blomqvist and the No. 60 Acura ARX-06 delivered an unforgettable performance, claiming second place in the season-opening endurance classic.
Driven by Tom Blomqvist, Colin Braun, Scott Dixon, and Felix Rosenqvist, the No. 60 car started sixth and ran in contention throughout the grueling 24-hour race. Over the final 14 hours, the team consistently held a spot in the top four, with all four drivers taking turns at the front.
A caution with two hours remaining allowed the No. 60 to close in on the leaders, and a final yellow flag set up a dramatic 38-minute sprint to the finish. Blomqvist made a decisive move for third shortly after the restart, then surged into second with under five minutes left. He crossed the line just 1.335 seconds behind the race winner, capping a remarkable charge and securing the podium.
The team showed impressive pace throughout the event, leading a combined total of 45 laps. Braun was the primary pacesetter, leading 24 straight laps and 30 total. Dixon led eight laps, Rosenqvist four, and Blomqvist three, all contributing to a well-executed run in pursuit of a third consecutive Rolex 24 victory.
The strong finish gives the No. 60 Acura valuable championship momentum heading into the next round: the 63rd Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring on March 15.
Tom Blomqvist: “Fantastic result nonetheless. There were parts of this race where we thought ‘this is going to be a long, long 24 hours.’ We struggled for pace and the Porsches were extremely fast but thankfully the team did a fantastic job to get me in a good position at the end. I drove the wheels off the thing and managed to get one of the Porsches, but the other one was a little but too far ahead – just not enough time really. Who knows what could have happened with a few more laps. I’m obviously extremely happy for everyone, it’s a good start to the season and good points. Huge thanks to everyone at Acura MSR, Acura and HRC. It’s a big joint venture this year with the team, there’s a lot more people involved and there’s a huge amount of effort and resources that’s gone into this program and it’s definitely a good way to start and let’s roll on to Sebring.”
