Tom Blomqvist and the No. 60 Acura ARX-06 of Meyer Shank Racing with Curb Agajanian fought through a strategic and physically demanding 100-minute sprint to finish ninth in the 50th Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach.
Tom Blomqvist started sixth and ran consistently in the lead pack through the opening stages. When the first caution flew 20 minutes into the race, the team made a key call to keep Blomqvist out, briefly moving up to second before handing over to Colin Braun two laps later during green-flag conditions.
Braun rejoined in a tight mid-field battle and later pitted again on Lap 43 for a fresh set of tires in a bid to gain late-race positions. The call paid off with Braun picking up one position in the closing minutes to secure ninth in the competitive GTP class.
Though the result fell short of expectations, the No. 60 crew minimized damage on a challenging day and continued to build consistency. Braun and Blomqvist now sit sixth in the GTP standings heading into the next round.
The IMSA WeatherTech Championship resumes May 11 at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca for the Monterey SportsCar Championship.
Tom Blomqvist: “We didn’t really have the pace and we got unlucky. It’s always difficult when you have two cars and have to manage things in the pits. We were behind on track so, we had to sacrifice a little bit by having to pit second on the first round of pit stops. And then unfortunately the other car wasn’t able to capitalize because they had a problem later. It put both of us out of contention. It’s a huge shame because it’s such a short race and there’s really not much you can do to catch up”
