LEXUS GRAND PRIX AT MID-OHIO - ROUND FIVE | MAY 13 - 15
- Round five of the 2022 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship took place at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course
- Tom and team mate Oliver Jarvis were again locked in battle with the #10 Acura, starting from third place on the grid and running in the podium places throughout the race
- Skilfully avoiding incidents ahead of him, Tom kept the team in the hunt for victory until traffic cost the Brit two positions with one hour to go
- Adjusting the strategy to make their final stop early, the team utilised the undercut and soon cycled back to second place
- On a charge, Tom set the fastest lap of the race for the second event in succession as he hunted down the leaders whilst also finishing the race with the fastest average lap time
- Only half a second back with 12 minutes to go, Tom fought valiantly but was forced to settle for second place At the halfway mark of the season, Tom occupies second place in the championship with 1675 points, just 32 points behind the leaders
- Round six of the championship takes place in Detroit on June 4th.
TOM'S RACE REVIEW
“Close again, but not quite enough. That was a crazy race, actually. We were running good, the car looked quick. We got caught out at our first stop, we stalled, basically. We looked like we had the lead going out of pit lane, we just got that wrong. That put us back in third. We had good pace. On the restart I struggled a bit with the tire buildup, but I still managed to hold the position because the car was quick. Then I got caught in traffic in one corner and two Cadillacs managed to get by. The team did a great strategy to bring me in early. I did some good out laps and managed to clear them again. They saved my ass there! Two little errors in the race possibly cost us the win. The positive is, we have a very quick car the last few races. We just have to iron out our mistakes and the wins are going to start coming."
