Tom Blomqvist kicks off 2019 with legendary Sebring 12 Hours

Marking his first race of the year, Tom Blomqvist will start his IMSA campaign this weekend with the second round of the WeatherTech Sportscar Championship at the Sebring International Raceway.

Making the move stateside for his 2019 racing season, Tom Blomqvist will be making his first appearance of the year this weekend at the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring Presented by Advance Auto Parts. After being forced to miss the first race of the season, Tom will finally team up with Connor De Phillippi and Colton Herta in the BMW Team RLLR #25 BMW M8 GTE.

The 67th Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring this weekend will feature a 38-car field for a once-around-the-clock battle on the legendary, 3.74-mile Sebring International Raceway circuit. Racing on an old Army Airfield built in 1950, Sebring 12 Hours is one of the oldest continuously running races in the world - having been contested every year since it’s inception in 1952.

Tom will be looking to keep up the team’s challenge this weekend on the back of the #25’s success in January that saw the car claim victory in the GTLM class of the prestigious 24-hour race of Daytona. After finishing the Sebring 12 Hour race in second place in 2018, on the BMW M8 GTE’s second outing, Tom and the team are aiming for the top spot this year and will be pushing for success once again.

“I think it’s safe to say I’m more eager than anything to get behind the wheel again! It’s my first race of the year and a special event! A very historic track with a lot of character; it's quite a challenging track, especially the first and last corners, which are very high-speed and very bumpy. As always well be going there with the aim of winning! I think me and my teammates stand a great chance."

Track action for the Sebring 12 Hours starts on Thursday, March 14, with the first practice session at 13:45 (GMT). Qualifying for the race the takes place on Friday at 14:20, with the race getting underway on Saturday at 14:40.
