Blomqvist prepared for IMSA fight back

Tom Blomqvist is ready for his IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship fight-back this week as the series heads to Lime Rock Park, Connecticut, for the Northeast Grand Prix.

A fortnight ago in Canada, Tom displayed a strong qualifying performance as he stormed to the front row of the grid in qualifying but unfortunately narrowly missed out on a podium in the race. This weekend, Tom and his RLL Team BMW will be hoping to claim silverware in the two-hour 40-minute race.

Lime Rock Park circuit is said to be the most significantly historic road racing circuit in the USA and this weekend Tom and the GTLM field will descend on the 1.5-mile venue. The track itself provides a mixture of uphill runs and downhill dales. While it may look simple on a map, the reality of driving a perfect lap is so much harder thanks to the undulations.

This weekend, Tom and his team-mate Connor De Phillippi will be looking to have a successful outing as they tackle the latest round of the IMSA championship in their BMW M8 GTE.

Tom said: “Last time out in Canada we had a strong qualifying, however, it was disappointing that we were unable to convert this to a podium finish. In saying that, we established that we had the necessary pace to run at the front, so now it’s about proving that.

“I would be lying if I said I wasn’t thinking about being on the podium this weekend - it is certainly possible and Connor, the team, and I are going to work as hard as we possibly can to make that a reality."

Tom’s weekend will get underway 16:25 (BST) on Friday 19th July with the first practice session. FP2 is scheduled for 18:55, before a final one-hour session at 21:55. A warm-up on Saturday will be followed by qualifying at 15:00. Lights out on Sunday is at 20:10.
