Blomqvist fired up for IMSA Road America debut

Tom Blomqvist is preparing for round eight of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, where he will make his racing debut at the Road America circuit this weekend (2-4 August) with a two-hour and 40-minute event.

Having tested at the circuit earlier in the season, Blomqvist - who is racing for BMW Team RLL in the GTLM class - will contest a race weekend at the 4.048-mile, 14-corner race track for the first time in his career this weekend as the IMSA paddock arrives in Wisconsin.

The Road America circuit, located near Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin, is considered to be one of America’s traditional venues and features flowing high-speed corners to test the drivers. In addition, it is one of the only circuits in the world to have kept its original formation since its creation in the 1950s.

Prior to this weekend, Tom has had an intense schedule of three race weekends across a month. Now, after a two-week break, Tom and his team-mate Connor De Phillippi are ready to push for their first podium of the year.

2019 has been a season of mixed fortunes for Tom. While the Integro-sponsored driver has delivered some excellent qualifying sessions, the duo are yet to cement their first trip to the rostrum. This weekend, however, Tom is determined to change that.

“I’ve been lucky enough to have tested already at Road America earlier in the year and that will hopefully serve us well,” Tom said ahead of the weekend. “It’s an epic track and one that should suit our package. We’ve been making steady progress in the right direction and we will be aiming for nothing less than a top-three finish this weekend.”

Tom’s weekend will begin on Friday (2nd August) with two practice sessions. On Saturday, there will be a final practice outing, followed by qualifying at 19:00 (BST). Sunday will feature a warm-up before the race gets underway at 19:35.
